The World’s Pain

sculpture-616821_1280

Let us not look upon the world’s pain
simply to rant or wail.
Let us hold it in our hands,
feel its flesh, touch its wounds,
kiss its tears—let us be one with it.
Let us, then, step boldly
and with hearts on fire
into the stagnant waters
of indifference and complacency
to proclaim and live
Love’s truth.

A Fire Inside

The truth
of who you are
is a fire inside
ignited and fueled
by the Mystery of Love.
Do you yearn
to feel the heat
and its power
to transform?
Learn to be still and
silent. Do you long
to divine your callings
and paths? Learn
to listen and wait.
And in your yearning
do not turn from
your wounds and fears
but dare to suffer them
as you surrender
all to the fire that
longs to burn brightly
as a torch blazing
the wholeness of you.

Suffering

In these later years I’ve tried
for a transparent relationship
with suffering—
surely I don’t desire it
nor do I yet fully accept it
but for now at least
I make an effort
to ride with it
without passing it on
to all who share my space.

Doubts

walkers-1563872_1280

We wear our doubts
about our worth
like a heavy back pack
of unsympathetic stones
forcing us to bend body and soul
to balance the burden of its weight
as we press forward to carry on.

So used to this merciless load
do we become that we forget
we were not born with it
and that it’s possible
to undo the bindings
and lay it down
at the sacred altar
of God’s love.

God is…

God is
in your tears,
or God is
nowhere at all.

This Life

sunset-320787_1280

Yes, I can still laugh
though pain sometimes
grinds me into the ground.
Yes, I can still celebrate
though tableaus of misery
everywhere abound. Yes, I can
still feel a rush of warm regard
though a winter of severity sometimes
threatens to freeze this heart.
But this life, oh this life, my friend!
To have lived, to have loved,
to have laughed and cried
copious tears of sorrow and joy!
Oh my! I salute
with wonder and awe,
this life!
