“The gospel of self realization, once heard, will never be forgotten.
Like a seed left in the ground, it will wait for the right season and sprout and grow into a mighty tree.”

~ “I Am That” Talks with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Self realization is a state in which an individual knows who they truly are and is fulfilled in that understanding.

What it means to each of us can vary.
For me, it manifested itself in an understanding that I am part of the loving Source within all beings and nature.

Others may call it a connection to God, or recognize that the Divine or Jesus is always within them. Yet, others may see it in a more scientific way, and consider it a fulfillment of all the possibilities of an individual’s personality and character.

Many of us have been Seekers for years. We…

Set It All Ablaze

IMG_5243
Gather the “stuff” of your life:
what you consider prime,
ordinary, and even waste.
Set it all ablaze into
a living fire fueled
by faith that does
not consume but simply
sheds light upon the All
of creation without judgement,
rejection or denial,
and you may begin, perhaps,
to know and love yourself
in new and wonderful ways.

The Spirit said to me,

bouquet-871899_1280
in the first instant of your being
I laid a burden on you,
which, if you now accept it
by the power of my grace,
can be for you as light
as a billowing cloud.

You see, I desire your arms
to be my arms, open
wide for all in need of
forgiveness and compassion.
your legs to be my legs,
carrying you to where
there is a need
for your special gifts.
your hands to be my hands,
creating beauty to inspire
and delight, your fingers
to be my fingers, pointing
to the paths of truth and
reconciliation, your heart
to be my heart, flowing
with love like a fountain
over a dry, brittle,
cynical world.

You, perhaps, are confused
that I call this burden light.
It can be light because
burdens are made heavy
by anxiety over control
and results. But I tell you
this day, that if you choose
to embrace this vision, control
and results will be mine to bear,
and you, my friend, can go forth
in peace.

Only When

It seems it is only when
I feel profoundly alone
in suffocating darkness
that I begin to notice
faith’s tiny flickering
flame waiting to be fed
my usual doubts and fears
so it can blaze wildly
and light up the night.

A Leap of Faith

morning-768609_1280
A relentless need
to control his world
coils around him
like a constrictor snake,
silently wrapping itself
around his thoughts,
emotions, and dreary deeds.
Sometimes its skin
is colored the green of envy,
sometimes the red of angry
judgement and blame.
Over the days and years,
little by little, bit by bit,
this snake has squeezed the joy
out of his breath, strangled
the spontaneity from his arms
and legs, reduced his life
to a lonely yardstick, worn
and cracked from constant
measuring against impossible
standards, deadly demands.

Yet a tiny, inextinguishable fire
continues to burn in his belly,
and more and more now he winces
at its sparks. Can it be
that life is more forgiving
than he has known?
Can it be that surrender
to a mystery so much greater
than the gods our
fears and pride create
can truly unlock the door
to a peace he thought only
a dreamer’s dream?

Now as the sun edges behind
the dazzling luster of autumn,
his heart takes him to the edge
of the sheer cliff of a choice
he never knew was his to make.
And unknown to him, Love
waits in the wind to faithfully
carry him home.
