This Life

Yes, I can still laugh
though pain sometimes
grinds me into the ground.
Yes, I can still celebrate
though tableaus of misery
everywhere abound. Yes, I can
still feel a rush of warm regard
though a winter of severity sometimes
threatens to freeze this heart.
But this life, oh this life, my friend!
To have lived, to have loved,
to have laughed and cried
copious tears of sorrow and joy!
Oh my! I salute
with wonder and awe,
this life!

  1. Oh, Dennis! Yes…this life. It is all you said and I am so grateful to be in it!!

Thank you again for my poem…you triggered a poem in me that came out instantly after I read yours. When I post it I will link it to yours if that is okay. Thank you dear friend ❀

  2. Well said, Dennis. Wherever you are, if it’s like wherever we are, it’s like nowhere we should ever be… πŸ™‚ It’s like driving through a tunnel that doesn’t want to end. It was cool it when it started, but… what the hell, man!?! I am coming to understand what a Sisyphian winter is…
