She whirled before me, guileless,
eager face straining for the sky,
light rain chiseling a smile
glorious on glistening cheeks.
She extended her arms full-length
in opposite directions, flat palms
and feathery fingers seemingly
practiced in the art of soaring.
Moments before, she broke loose
from the boughs of my umbrella,
to announce an eight-year-old’s vision
and credo: I gotta be free!
Longing to join the gambol
but hobbled by an arthritic hip
and the rust of years given
to caution and conformity, I settle
for silence and reverent awe
in the presence of this young
priestess and her primal
celebration of life.

Touched! so beautifully written.
Thank you.
Reminds me of my niece.
The poem is about my granddaughter and a wonderful moment I was privileged to witness. Have a great day.
Oh, the hearts of innocence! May we find our way past arthritic hips and years of birthdays to recapture freshness in each day.
Amen to that!
I love this Dennis…I can see the whole scene unfolding before my eyes! ❤
It was a truly wonderful moment for me. It took place 16 years ago, and I know I’ll remember it always.
Dennis….I love those moments …suspended in time…remembered as if they were yesterday!!! That is the good stuff!!!! Love to you ❤
And great to be able to share the good stuff. Peace and joy, Lorrie.
Great work! What a wonderful legacy…
Any compliment from you, Laine, is much appreciated, since I greatly respect your work.

I love this the second time around too. Wonderful!
Thanks, Laine.
Isn’t it wonderful how free and joyful they can be. I love watching my grandchildren take in life.

Wonder-full picture and moment for you. I love this.
A moment I will always remember!
